The CJP Movement of the "Cockroaches" and Their Uprising Beyond Mass Arrests

The Jantar Mantar siege in New Delhi on October 10, 2026, orchestrated by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has marked a major turning point in the history of contemporary Indian politics and student activism. Organized to voice demands against NEET exam irregularities, unemployment, and to protect the right to education, this peaceful protest has transcended strict government crackdowns to capture global attention.

The Delhi Siege and Strict Police Restrictions:

To suppress students marching toward Jantar Mantar despite a refusal of official permission, the Delhi Police imposed unprecedented restrictions. The entire Jantar Mantar area was sealed off with heavy iron barricades, and over 20,000 security personnel were deployed. A total of 57 metro stations were closed across Delhi, and mobile internet services were completely suspended within a 4 km radius of Central Delhi. Prevented from entering Jantar Mantar by these blockades, students gathered in alternative venues like Dilli Haat, Mandi House, and Connaught Place to continue their demonstration.

Mass Arrests and the Detention of Key Leaders:

In an effort to shut down the movement, the police have detained over 3,300 protesters across Delhi. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, along with core executives Sourav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, and legal cell head Ratna Singh, were taken into preventive custody right as they landed at the Delhi airport.

Furthermore, popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was arrested by a special police team at his residence in Gurugram, while AISA student outfit president Neha Bora, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, and Dipankar Bhattacharya were detained near the INA Market.

Resonance in Tamil Nadu Politics
The waves of this Delhi protest triggered intense debates within the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.

The Stance of Vijay's TVK:

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief, C. Joseph Vijay, extended his moral support to the CJP's anti-NEET ideology through an official statement on his social media account. However, no official representatives from his party travelled to New Delhi to directly participate at the protest site.

 The Direct Involvement of DMK:

Moving past letters and statements, DMK Parliamentary Party Leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi MP went directly to the Jantar Mantar protest ground to sit and demonstrate alongside the students. DMK MP A. Raja visited the hospital to personally comfort students injured during the police lathi charge. DMK President and senior leader M.K. Stalin also issued a strong statement condemning the arbitrary detentions and demanding the immediate release of the students.

International Support and a Global Victory

Global observers and international communities do not view these crackdowns as a "defeat for the students." Rather, the international arena registers this as a moral victory for their cause. Leading international news outlets like the and broadcasted the internet blackouts and metro closures as headline news.

International human rights watchdogs, including and , strongly condemned the usage of force and lathi charges on peaceful student demonstrators. The weighed in via an official briefing, urging the Indian government to allow peaceful assemblies without the threat of harassment or arbitrary arrests.

Indian diaspora student groups in global hubs like London, Berlin, New York, Dublin, Vancouver, and Amsterdam staged solidarity rallies outside Indian embassies, while international climate activist Greta Thunberg also extended her moral support to the CJP movement during a demonstration in London.

A Moral Uprising Beyond Detentions.

As the temporary internet blackouts and Namo Bharat/metro transit restrictions are slated to lift by 10:00 PM tonight (October 10, 2026), the has announced that the defiance will continue under the leadership of alternative coordinator Ajinkya Shinde. Plans are also underway to expand the physical demonstrations to other major state capitals, including Mumbai's historic August Kranti Maidan.

Though physical spaces were temporarily restricted by state machinery, the student body succeeded in thrusting their demands for educational reform onto the world stage. Ultimately, the Jantar Mantar protest stands as a resounding democratic victory that grew stronger in the face of mass arrests.
